Margaret Hylton
Margaret Ann Downey Hylton reached the end of her faithful life of service on October 17, 2024 at the age of 92.
Margaret Ann was born in Low Moor, Virginia on September 2, 1932 - the first daughter of Alma Via Downey and Daley Lee Downey. She graduated from Central High School in 1951. On January 19, 1952 she married the love of her life, Doug Hylton, and supported him throughout his Air Force career, by living and working in Virginia, Mississippi and Georgia. Following Doug’s military service, the couple moved back to Alleghany County where Margaret Ann was employed, for over 30 years, as head cashier at A&P Grocery Store, in Clifton Forge, VA (later becoming Super Fresh). Raising their family in Low Moor, allowed the couple to be involved in the lives of their daughter’s 3 children and be devoted members of Low Moor Presbyterian Church.
Margaret Ann was active in community events, activities with family and friends, the Senior Friends program and missionary trips supported by the church.
After moving to Grottoes Virginia in July of 2007, to be nearer her younger grandchildren, Margaret Ann became a member of Mt Olive Brethren Church in Pineville, Virginia – where she enjoyed Women’s Lunches, Super Senior events and, following the passing of her precious soulmate, Grief Share meetings. She made many friends and served as an inspiration to many.
Margaret Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Via Downey and Daley Lee Downey. Her husband, Douglas R. Hylton. One brother, Warren Downey and two sisters, Nancy Lee D. Campbell and Joan D. Newman.
She is survived by one sister: Jane D. Terrell of Covington, VA; her two children: Linda H. McCloy & husband, Mark, of Moneta, VA and Douglas R. “Randy” Hylton Jr and his wife, Becky, of Grottoes, VA. She also leaves behind grandchildren: Mason McCloy & wife, Jessica; Jeremy McCloy & wife, Jessica; Sue-Anne McCloy; Josh Hylton and partner, Dakota Hirsch, and youngest grandson Brady Hylton. In addition, she had five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends whom she loved with her whole heart.
While we are sad that she has moved on from her earthly life, Margaret Ann was a good and faithful servant which gives her loved one’s peace that she’s with her beloved, Doug in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
The family will receive visitors at Loving Funeral Home, 350 N Maple Ave., Covington, Virginia, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 11-1 with the service following at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Fred Miller officiating.
