Margaret Londeree Spencer
Margaret Londeree Spencer, 93, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and the quiet comfort of her faith.
Born on July 23, 1931, in Nelson County, Virginia, Margaret was the daughter of the late Luther E. Londeree Sr. and Nettie Mae Londeree Adcock. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Alvin Ray Smith Spencer; three brothers, Joseph, Charles, and Luther Londeree Jr.; her stepfather, Joseph Adcock; and her son-in-law, Steve Hughes.
Margaret retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Company after many years of dedicated service. A devoted homemaker and gentle soul, she found joy in the simple things—her home, her family, and her unwavering faith. Church played a central role in her life. She was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, where she was deeply inspired by the ministry of both Dr. Jerry Falwell and his son, Pastor Jonathan Falwell. In later years, when attending in person became more difficult, she remained faithful by watching services from home.
Margaret had a deep love for her family, especially for the babies who brought so much light into her world. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She also found joy in shopping, tending to her flowers, and watching the birds—cardinals being her favorite. One of her greatest pleasures was the annual beach trips to Myrtle Beach, where memories were made that will be treasured by her family forever.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Thelma Hughes; four grandchildren, Jonathan Hughes (Kelly), Lisa Worley, Sherri Howell (Gordon), and Amy Turner (Derrick); twelve great-grandchildren, Jesse, Paige, Kirsty, Andrew, Jeremy, Kaitlyn, Jordyn, Nathan, Jacob, Riley, Camryn, and Mason; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two special nieces, Betty Londeree and Linda “Sis” Rhodenhizer, who held a dear place in her heart.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell and Pastor David Rhodenhizer officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In honor of Margaret’s giving spirit and her love for children and ministry, memorial contributions may be made to Thomas Road Baptist Church, 1 Mountain View Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502 or www.trbc.org, and to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
Margaret's life was a quiet testimony to faith, love, and contentment. Her legacy lives on in those who loved her most.
