Margie Boothe Wright

December 1, 1928 - December 27, 2024

Margie Ilene Boothe Wright, 96, of Salem, went to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully, on Friday, December 27, 2024. Born December 1, 1928, in Floyd, VA, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Abijah Boothe and Weda Peters Boothe. Margie has reunited with her beloved husband of 65 years, Thomas Greer (Jimmy) Wright, her son, Phillip Greer Wright, son-in-law, James Francis Tobey, Jr., siblings James, Joyce, Dale and Linda, and brother-in-laws, Ray Epperly and Frank Proffitt.

Margie leaves many precious memories to her daughter Rebecca Wright Tobey, of Botetourt County, her grandson Matthew W. Tobey, wife, Aprille; her granddaughter Heather Tobey Dudley, husband, Michael; and four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Wyatt Tobey and Kiele and Remington Dudley, all residing in Salem. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Boothe, wife, Mary; sister, Lois Boothe Reynolds, husband Wayne; sister, Dorothy Boothe Proffitt, sister-in-law Maxine Epperly and three generations of nieces and nephews.

Margie’s life was a testimony of dedication and service to her Lord, her family and her community, where she was a faithful member of Green Hill Church of the Brethren for over 60 years. Margie served as church secretary, deacon, secretary of deacons, nursery attendant, member of the Green Hill Quilters and faithful member. She was extremely dedicated to her faith, not only by completing an extensive study of the Bible and daily devotions, but also by maintaining a positive outlook on life and supporter of many charities. Through the years, Margie made sure meals were always prepared for others and sent many cards, no matter the occasion.

Margie was an extremely hard worker. After working for over 20 years and retiring from Tultex Apparel, she then worked for many more years serving the Roanoke County Social Services in multiple capacities and retired in 2005, at the age of 78. Those who knew Margie knew she was a meticulous bookkeeper, loved to cook and can, kept an immaculate home, was a highly skilled seamstress and quilter and had a passion and talent for gardening. She was always a “go-getter,” independent and strong-willed, keeping herself fit and her hands busy, whether it was caring for family, her church family, crafting, painting or completing word puzzles.

The family wishes to express their thanks to those on staff at Friendship Salem Terrace and the extraordinary physicians and nursing staff of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Lewis-Gale, for their special care.

Due to the impending weather the services have been moved to Friday, January 17, 2025 with visitation at Lotz Funeral Home from 12:00 until 1:00 pm. The celebration of Margie's life will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.
