Martha Ellen Layton Sampson

Martha Ellen Layton Sampson, 85, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, surrounded by her family. Martha was born in Neptune, NJ on September 5, 1940 to the late Lillian Harris Layton and the late George Layton. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Billy Monroe Sampson.

Martha was of the Christian Faith and a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and was a loving homemaker for many years to her entire family. She also enjoyed sitting outside on the porch birdwatching.

Martha is survived by three daughters; Tina Stein and husband Johnny of Dry Fork, VA, Terri Dunn and husband Steve of Chatham, VA, and Tracy Sampson Hall and husband Tony of Dry Fork, VA; 1 sister and 1 brother; four grandchildren; Brandy, William, Jay, and Alston; 8 great grandchildren; Rayne, Emily, Chloe, Luke, Sophia, J.D., Oliver, and Levi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and loving husband, Martha was predeceased by a son; Barry Michael Sampson; a grandson; Tony; and sister; Virginia Tupper.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00pm at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, 8060 U.S. Highway 29, Blairs, VA 24527, with Sandy Wright officiating.
