Mary Elizabeth Beeghly

Mary Elizabeth Beeghly, age 102 of Rocky Mount died on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Urias Beeghly; daughter, Nancy Whitlow; grandson, William Whitlow; parents, G.E. and Dorinda Ashworth; siblings, Howard Ashworth, Eva Bohn, Nellie Soyars, Albert Ashworth, Denton Ashworth and George Ashworth; and sons-in-law, Carter Ellis, Amos Whitlow and Jerry Gates. She is survived by sisters, Velma Meador and Sevilla Bowers; children, Jean Ellis, Don Beeghly (wife Gaye), Ruth Gates and Marty Rice; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mary was an avid traveler, gardener, quilter, and canner. Raised in the Church of the Brethren, she loved the Lord and later in life became a dedicated member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She loved spending time with friends and family and was known for her mischievous sense of humor and zest for life. She was "Granny" to many people beyond her biological family and was lovingly cared for in the last months of her life by Donna Gantt as well as the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice. She will be dearly missed by so many. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
