Mary Ellen Goad
Mary Ellen Goad, daughter of David Clarence and Ronella Holmes Goad, passed away on May 8, 2025, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born March 26, 1947, in Washington, DC, the beloved city she resided in until approximately 1958, when she relocated with her parents to their hometown of Mount Airy. After graduating from Mount Airy High School and Guilford College, she remained in Greensboro, where she lived and worked for the next 35 years until returning to Mount Airy, upon retirement, to attend to the care of their mother. She is survived by her sister, Debbie Goad Benge (Ricky), and much-loved niece and nephew, Katie McCrary (Josh), and David Benge (Maggie), and her precious great nieces and great nephew, Adalyn and Sadie McCrary, Nora Kate and Archie Benge, along with numerous loved aunts and cousins, most especially a lifetime friend and favorite cousin, Ellen Goad Adkisson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Many thanks are extended to the awesome caregivers from Home Instead, particularly Cora, Lynn, Tosha, Frances, and Dee. Also, much appreciation is expressed to the angels at Woltz Hospice Home, who made Mary Ellen’s last days peaceful and comfortable.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Robert McCrary, on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 3:00pm, at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel. After the service, those attending are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship and celebration of Mary Ellen’s life in the fellowship hall of Mount Airy Wesleyan Church, 2063 South Main Street, Mount Airy, just past the Derby Restaurant on the left. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017, or First Presbyterian Church, 326 South Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
