Mary Ellen Hodges Walker

Mary Ellen Hodges Walker, age 86, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026.

She was the daughter of the late Ruby Hodges Hall. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James G. Walker; her daughter, Kathy Wampler; her brothers, Junior Hall and Harry Lee Hall; her sister Ginny Hall; as well as three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.

Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness and warmth touched all who knew her. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, her dedication to her family, her spunkiness, and the many cherished memories she leaves behind.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lewis Underwood (Lisa), Doug Underwood (Teresa), Bonnie Wagoner (Ronnie), and Robert Underwood (Sharon); her brothers, Tom Hodges (Lois) and Eugene Hall (Patricia); her sisters, Linda Luellen (Sonny), Lena Tucker (Val); as well as her grandchildren, Tony, Dawn, Jay Michael, Jimmy, Steve, Crystal, Ashley, Jessica, Michael, Amanda, and Courtney, and also numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren  

A visitation will be held at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel on Monday, April 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at County Line Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

Mary’s legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
