Mary Jane Hall

February 17, 1936 - January 6, 2025

Mary Jane Adkins Hall, born February 17, 1936, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2025, gaining her heavenly wings to join her beloved husband, Jesse, and her oldest son, Leon. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grand mother, and friend whose love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Mary Jane was the last living sibling of nine. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas S. and Mary Lee Adkins, brothers, Thomas, Ralph, Bobby, Gene and Jimmy Adkins. Sisters, Lucille Wright, Inez Via, Frances Mason and Nancy Wyatt.

Left to honor her memory are her devoted daughter, Betty Jane Hall Barrow (Gene), and her “baby boy” Allen Wayne Hall (Peedie). She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Clinton Wayne Hall (Whitney), Jason Barrow (Lori), and great-grandchildren Ella Santoemma, Keagan and Hudson Hall, Lorelai, Meredith, Nate, Piper, and Kat Barrow. Mary Jane’s legacy will forever live on through the countless memories she created with her family and friends.

Mary Jane worked at Fieldcrest Mills as an inspector before choosing to stay home and raise her family. She was known for her selfless help to her neighbors in Fieldale and always had a heart for caring for others. She took great pride in being a loving daughter to her parents and a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews, who fondly remembered spending time at her home. In the summertime, you could find Mary Jane at the Fieldale pool, where she spent hours soaking in the sun. She also had a unique way of mowing her yard, often sporting a bathing suit top or halter top, even amusing the local police officer, Mr. Stegall, who would kindly ask her to put on a shirt.

A life long member of Hill Memorial Baptist Church, Mary Jane was baptized in the river in Fieldale many years ago by Reverend Curtis Hawks. She had a deep love for her faith, as well as for her needlepoint art, which adorned her home with pillows and pictures. Her conversations on the phone were legendary—just a simple “hello” would lead to several minutes of sharing and connecting.

Mary Jane’s favorite pastimes included watching TV shows like Mike and Molly, Golden Girls, and various game shows. She was known for her love of simple pleasures, especially her KFC special of two legs, green beans and a Diet Pepsi. Her weekly grocery list was a thing of tradition, always including Rice Krispies, Two percent milk, Reese’s Klondike Bars, Jello and Cool-Whip and occasionally bananas and lettuce.

Mary Jane lived a simple, full, Godly, and blessed life. Her warmth, kindness, and devotion to her family will be forever remembered. We love you, we miss you, and we look forward to the day we will meet again.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hill Memorial Baptist Church, 2359 Appalachian Drive, Martinsville, VA with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Danny Brim officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Hill Memorial Baptist Church 2359 Appalachian Drive, Martinsville, VA. 24112.
