Mary Jo Booker Roberts

Ms. Mary Jo Booker Roberts, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, September 9, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital. Ms. Roberts was born February 11, 1934, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Joe Sam Booker and Hazel Davis Booker Orange. Mary Jo’s extraordinary life was marked by her unwavering dedication and remarkable 52-year tenure with Spencer’s Inc., where she became a symbol of commitment and compassion. During her retirement years, she enjoyed working part-time at Roses Department Store. She lived a rich and fulfilling life both professionally and personally, and she influenced others with a beacon of hope and support for countless individuals through her faithful service at Calvary Baptist Church. Mary Jo, affectionately known as Jo-Jo by her great-nephew, Navneet Singh, is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Ron Stroupe; her grandchildren, Travis Fulk and Cindy Landis, April Fulk, Randi Searcy, Tyler and Jess Stroupe, and Roni Mabe; her great-grandchildren, Maddux Fulk, McCoy Fulk, Tyra Galloway, Trey and M.J. Galloway, Charli and Stephen Ellington, Ryan Mabe, Hayes Stroupe, Fallon Stroupe, Baylor Stroupe, and Harper Searcy; her sister, Sandra Goins; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Teresa Orange; and a special niece, Rhonda Bottoms. In addition to her parents, Ms. Roberts was preceded in death by two sisters, Dot Smith and Anne Holyfield. A service of worship and celebration of Mary Jo’s life will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
