Mary Joyce Stevens

Mary Joyce Stevens, age 95, long-time resident of Christiansburg, VA, cherished wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother, departed her earthly life on April 29, 2035 at Kroontje Health Care Center. She was predeceased by her parents, Reece B. Matthews and Blanche B. Matthews; brother, Jack L. Matthews; husband, Bruce E. Stevens; brother-in-law, Rodrick B. Stevens; sisters-in-law, Loraine B. Stevens, Dorothy O. Stevens and Evelyn Stevens. Survivors include daughter, Susan Stevens-Mauldon and husband Matthew Mauldon of Blacksburg, VA, grandson, James E. Huckle of Roanoke, VA, brother, James W. Matthews and wife Carolyn of Salem, VA; brothers-in-law Richard L. Stevens of Raleigh, NC, and Samuel R. Stevens of Roanoke, VA; and 5 nieces and 3 nephews. Mary Joyce was a graduate of William Fleming High School and National Business College, Roanoke. She was a talented pianist and lively conversationalist. Serving in the Montgomery County School system for many years, Mary Joyce helped staff the front desk at Christiansburg High School and was secretary for the Guidance Office. Mary Joyce and husband Bruce were active members of St. Paul Methodist Church in Christiansburg, and enjoyed singing in both the church choir and the Joy Singers. In retirement she worked as a hospital volunteer, poll worker, Lions Club member and avid supporter of her grandson’s activities. Her faith, her family and her friends were the center of her life. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, with graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Rev. Mike Derflinger officiating. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the staff at Willows II, Kroontje, for the outstanding care and friendship they provided to Mary Joyce.
