Joyce Maureen Brown Ellis, 87, of Midlothian, VA, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023. She was born April 19, 1935 in Franklin County, VA to the late Troy Chatman and Sallie Fannie Brown. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Dillon Ellis, and 7 older brothers, Fulton (Virginia), Wallace (Ann), Wilfred (Maude), Wayne (Virginia), Ralph (Doris), Calvin (Christine) and Dale; Father and Mother-in-law, William Kyle and Pokie Dillon Ellis; Brother-in-law and Sisters-in-law, Clifford (Ellen) Ellis, Elizabeth (Russell) Smith, Doris (Robert) Belton and Talitha (Robert) Adams; as well as, 6 nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Williams and Kyla (Gary) Pontelandolfo; grandchildren, Jarrett (Nicole) Williams and Chatman and Lane Elliott; and great-granddaughters, Parker and Hazel Williams. She is also survived by Sisters-in-law and Brother-in-law, Shirley Brown (wife of her predeceased brother Dale) and Dorothy and Douglas Prillaman; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Maureen was the youngest of 8 children and was raised on her family farm by her older brothers with help from other family members, friends and neighbors after both parents became deceased when she was 12 years old. She was a 1953 graduate of Franklin County High School. After moving to Midlothian, VA, she worked for Safeway Stores, Inc. and J.C. Penney Telemarketing Center until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, handwork, knitting and crocheting, sewing, listening to country and bluegrass music and any reason to talk to anyone. She hosted many family reunions, holiday gatherings and canned the best 14 Day and Bread and Butter Pickles ever.

The family would like to thank everyone that has expressed their many kind thoughts and for their many phone calls, visits and prayers over the years; and in particular, Dr. Rachel Monroe and staff, Virginia Physicians, Inc.; Linda Bishop, Executive Director and staff, Ginter Hall South Assisted Living and Memory Care and the staff of Suncrest Hospice.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday at Flora Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill. Her family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
