Maynard Dellon Powell

Maynard Dellon Powell, 82, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Davis and McDaniel Veteran’s Center in Roanoke.Born on November 19, 1941 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late John H. Powell and Virginia E. Powell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Duval Powell.Maynard was a proud veteran of the United States Army and loved the country he so bravely served. He retired from the Army as a First Sergeant and began a new career at Sentry equipment where he worked for eight years. Maynard loved traveling, going on cruises and spending time at the beach. He loved spending time in nature and over the years fed numerous squirrels, birds and deer. He enjoyed watching baseball whenever he could whether it was his grandson’s games and practices or his beloved New York Yankees. Most of all, Maynard was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Wanda Powell; his daughter, Angela Powell Cassidy (Taylor); his grandson, Dellon Powell Cassidy and his sister-in-law, Annie Lee Powell.A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
