Melvin Junior Watkins
Melvin Junior Watkins, Sr., 87, of Axton, Virginia passed away, Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was born May 18, 1937, in Axton, Virginia to the late James William Watkins and Beulah Martin Watkins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Price Watkins; ex-wife, Joyce B. Martin; son, Derril Watkins; sisters, Lillie Carter, Sarah Morrison, Margie Watkins, and Lillian Strange; brothers, John Henry Martin, Jessie Watkins, Bobby D. Watkins, and Lewis H. Watkins.
Melvin dedicated over thirty years of his life as a Supervisor of Maintenance at American Furniture, where his commitment, hard work, and expertise were evident in everything he did. He found joy in work, especially tasks that allowed him to work with his hands, which spoke to his deep love for craftsmanship and service. Outside of his professional life, Melvin was a devoted Member of Mount Sinai Holiness Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, demonstrating his strong faith and commitment to his community. Above all, Melvin cherished his family, loving them dearly and making them top priority. His legacy is one of dedication, love, and service; values that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
He is survived by daughter, Antionette Reese; son, Melvin Watkins, Jr.; step daughter, Karen Carter; sister, Shirley Adams, brothers, Richard Watkins, and Larry Watkins; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Mount Sinai Holiness Church with Pastor Marvin Slade officiating. Interment will follow at Watkins Family Cemetery. A visitation will be held one half hour prior to the service.
