Michael Eugene Lavinder

Dr. Michael Eugene Lavinder, 72, of Bassett, Va. passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He was born on July 31, 1953, to Donald Eugene Lavinder and Evelyn Jacqueline Joyce Lavinder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Terri Lavinder Melson.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Faye Hodges Lavinder; four sons, Matthew Lavinder, Tim Lavinder (Kristen), Aaron Lavinder (Tiffany) and Joel Lavinder (Holly); grandchildren, Allaina, Elijah, Grace, Logan, Abigail, Amelia, Annabelle and Adam “Phin”; and his brother, Dennis Lavinder (Sharon).

Dr. Lavinder completed Dental School at VCU-MCV in 1978 and then began his long and successful career practicing dentistry in Martinsville and Henry County in 1979. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and retired with over 40 years of service.

He was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Bassett where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and played in the worship team. He was also a very devoted Gideon.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm at First Baptist Church of Bassett on Thursday, January 8, 2026. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm and will be officiated by Reverend Doug Ramsey.
