Michael John Bannister

Michael John Bannister, 76, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Duke University Hospital. He was born November 14, 1948, in Binghamton, New York, to the late John Bannister and Catherine Lang Bannister.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son and also his sister, Cathy Horowitch.

After graduating from Binghamton Central High School in Binghamton, New York, he proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was the owner and operator of The Rental Center for nearly two decades and appreciated his loyal customers and his employee. He was also employed by Stow Manufacturing for approximately 30 years. Michael was a hard worker who enjoyed his work. Even at home, his work ethic was demonstrated in the way he maintained a well-manicured lawn. He was a peaceful man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Michael was a loyal friend to many and was loved by everyone.

He will be deeply missed by his loving partner, Theresa Craig, with whom he spent 38 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his son, James Bannister; sisters, Mary Vandermark and Gail Bannister; best friend, Tony Cleary; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the many acts of love, support, and kindness that have been shown during this time of grief.
