Michael Lewis Redd

Michael Lewis Redd, age 73 of Vernon Hill, VA passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at SOVAH Health in Danville, VA. Mr. Redd was born December 9, 1950 at the Dabney House in Pittsylvania County to the late Elsie Boelte Redd and the late Elbert Allison Redd. He was married to Patricia Darlene Carroll Redd.

Mr. Redd was a member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church and retired from Haymes Brothers Construction in Chatham. He found great joy hunting, fishing and camping, but most of all he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife of the residence, he is also survived by two daughters, Lisa R. Shorter and her husband John, and Holly Layne; two sons, Michael Lewis Redd, Jr. and Jamison Layne and his wife Madalyn; two grandchildren, Trevor Redd and Dixie Layne; one great grandchild, Amelia Taylor; four sisters, Mavis R. Davis, Cynthia R. McDaniel, Mary Sue R. Daniel, and Lucy R. Lane; and his special friend, Johnny Bolling.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one daughter, Hope Layne Kennon; one granddaughter, Haleigh Kennon; one sister, Joanne R. Ricketts; and one brother, Elbert Dean Redd.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 13953 Halifax Rd., Java, VA 24565 with Rev. Mike McDowell officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence.
