Michael Ray Simmons
With much faith and fortitude, we sorrowfully announce the peaceful passing of beloved, Michael Ray Simmons on Monday, February 2, 2025 at his home in Rocky Mount. His presence in life to anyone he knew was truly pure and unrivaled; and equally so, will be his gracious memory to the one’s that were blessed by his love. His example of life is beyond words and a masterpiece that defines a soul we can only aspire to be and pass along like Michael so reassuringly did. His accepting and unwavered love is a gift that we will always cherish and live by as closely as possible. Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Calvin and Mary Flora Simmons; stepfather, Wilfred Jacob Simmons; first wife, Elinor Louise Simmons; son, David Brooks; grandson, Dagan Brooks; sister-in-law, Pamela Simmons; brothers-in-law, Bill Donohoe and Barry Hodges; nieces, Kayla Simmons and Destiny Hodges. many aunts, uncles and cousins. Surviving are his wife, Katherine Simmons and her children Mary and Ron; grandchildren, Megan (Michael) Brooks; great-grandchildren, Alayna and Jaden; nine siblings, Linda Donahoe, Marie Simmons, Jean Bayer, Henry (Beth) Simmons, David (Beth) Simmons, Bonnie Hodges, Carl Simmons and Vera (Daryl) Johnson; aunts, Geraldine Price, Leevene Witcher and Shirley Witcher; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, Michael’s request was for donations to be made to Rohoboth United Methodist Church in Wirtz, VA or Good Samaritan Hospice in Roanoke, VA. A memorial service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025 with Rev. Anthony Budzik officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
