Nadine Puckett Nolen

September 10, 1939 - May 6, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Nadine Nolen of Rocky Mount, VA, on May 6, 2023, at the age of 83 years after a very short battle with cancer. She will be forever remembered and cherished by her daughters, Angie Nolen and Terri Nolen; granddaughter, Gracyn Alice; sisters-in-law, Juanita Houchins, Gloria Rakes (Otis), and Becky Nolen; and many special nieces and nephews.

Nadine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Samuel Wiley Nolen; brothers-in-law, Donald Nolen and Tyler Houchins; siblings, Bob, Oakley, Bill, Gaynelle, and Marianne; parents-in-law, Thelma Mae and Charles Everett Nolen; parents, Martha Alice Hughes Puckett and Elkanah Puckett.

Nadine was born on September 10, 1939, in Lebanon, VA, but grew up in the Virginia Baptist Children’s Home in Salem, VA. After high school, she met and married Sam Nolen of Franklin County, VA, and followed him to Homestead Air Force Base in Florida before eventually returning to settle in Collinsville and then Ferrum, VA. She was an exceptional wife, mother, and “Mimi” who had a real gift for homemaking. She cared for her family well with her gardening, sewing, cooking, crafting, and participating in all her girls’ activities. In addition, she worked outside the home for the Franklin County Department of Aging for many years.

Nadine also had quite a gift for hospitality. She will be fondly remembered for her superb cooking, everything from country fare to gourmet, with which she blessed family, friends, and neighbors.

Nadine loved the Lord and served Him faithfully at Faith Assembly of God in Ferrum for many years. She was always the first to teach, to volunteer, to give, to provide meals, to decorate, and to pray - not out of obligation, but from her true servant’s heart.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Nadine’s in-home caregivers, Debra Timpe and Sandra Anglin, the staff at Friendship Salem Terrace, and the palliative and hospice care teams at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. They all gave her beautiful care during her last months, weeks, and days. She was truly blessed.

Nadine leaves a legacy of nurturing love, constant devotion, and unwavering faith that will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Interment will follow in the McAlexander Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
