Nancy C. Fortune

Nancy Carol (Lockhart) Fortune, 87, wife of Harry H. Fortune, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn (Bush) Lockhart. Nancy was preceded in death by a son, Robert Todd Fortune, and a son-in-law, Bruce Schilkie.

Nancy was a long-time member of Southview United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and the Choir. She enjoyed landscaping her yard and world-wide traveling with her husband of 67 years, as well as being an accomplished pianist. Nancy retired from the J.C. Penny Company after 35 years of service where she served in various positions. 

Nancy will be missed and remembered by her husband Sonny [Harry, Jr.] son, Harry H. Fortune, III and his wife Pamela; daughters, Yvonne C. Fortune-Schilkie, and Cynthia R. Fortune and her husband, Tim Irish; grandchildren, Harry H. Fortune, IV, Amanda R. Fortune, Robert H. Fortune and his wife, Olivia, Cassey Peck and her husband Patrick, Tyler Spires and his wife Maddie, Randy Spires, Zach Irish and his wife Madison Butler, Sean Irish and his wife Morgan; eleven great-grandchildren Braylen, Andrea, Theo, Heidi, Helena, Madeline, Jackson, Temperance, Olivia, Konner and DJ; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends; as well as many grand fur babies. 

Services to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be private for the family only.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Genesis United Methodist Church (formerly Southview UMC) 3539 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019 or to your local SPCA. The family would like to express gratitude to Dalton and Amanda Krewson for their amazing caregiver services in our time of need.
