Nancy Elizabeth Burkindine

February 21, 1939 - April 6, 2024

Nancy Elizabeth Burkindine, 85 of Roanoke, VA went to be with her loving husband in heaven on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Born in Pulaski, VA to the late Harold Lee Mabe and Janie Elizabeth Miller on Tuesday, February 21, 1939.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lincoln Burkindine; brothers, Charles “Jimmy” Miller and his wife, Mary, Phillip “Pip” Mabe and his wife, Wanda; best friend of 50+ years Patricia and Arthur Shifflet.

Nancy had a deep love for her family and always made sure to prioritize spending time with them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately called her "Nanny". She was an avid bingo player and had a sweet tooth for delectable chocolates. Additionally, Nancy was a devoted pet owner and lover who cared for many pets throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Brenda “Diane” Sisson and her husband, James, Peggy Ann Newman, and her husband, Terry; grandchildren, Jennifer Alyssa Robinson and her husband, Ryan, as well as Marie Munson, Wendy Jamison, and Donald Miller; grandchildren, Caleb Andrews and Abigail Donahue; great-grandchildren, Lucas Newman, Gabe Robinson, Luke Robinson, Richard Miller, Angie Cox, Krista, and Paula Jamison; and six great-great-grandchildren; in addition to her best friends children, Wanda and Scott Homan, Debbie and Billy Pritchett, Patty and Ronnie Tucker.

The family will have a Celebration of Nancy’s Life on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, in Salem. Her granddaughter Jennifer Robinson will officiate.

Special thanks to the staff of Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Roanoke, VA for their love and care of Miss Nancy in the last year of her life. The staff and the residence put a smile back on her face and a peep in her step. We are forever thankful to all of you.
