Nancy Reed Watson
Nancy Reed Watson, age 93 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Watson was born August 5, 1931 in Danville, Virginia to the late Julia Taylor Reed and the late Washington Reed. She spent much of her childhood growing up in Chatham. She attended Longwood University and married fellow Chatham resident Richard Jackson Watson (Col. USAF Retired) in 1951. During the next 32 years they moved around the world to many USAF locations, living in Turkey, England, Germany, Spain, Hawaii and many other states in the US. They retired back to Chatham in 1983. Richard Watson passed away in 2001.
Nancy had many hobbies, most especially painting. You will find many outstanding works of hers in her home. Those who knew Nancy know her other key hobby was architecture/home remodeling. Tape measure in hand, she was known to be very involved in home projects, such as adding a room, and putting up sheet rock well into her 80’s. Nancy was a member of the Chatham Book Club and the Chatham Garden Club. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Her home was always open as a place to stay for the large, extended Watson Family, as well as friends from all over who came to visit the area.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth W. Brodsky and her husband Robert; her grandchildren, Jessica Toy (Kelly Johnson), Stephanie Brodsky, and Sarah Brodsky; and her sister, Mary Hicks Heitzler and her beloved dog Bessie.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at Chatham Burial Park with Reverend Becky Crites officiating. The family will receive friends and family at the residence following the service.
