Nathan "Nate" Foster
Robert Nathan “Nate” Foster, 38, passed away on January 29, 2025.
A free spirit with an adventurous heart, Nate found joy in the great outdoors. Whether canoeing along winding rivers, exploring hiking trails, or mushroom hunting in the woods, he embraced nature with enthusiasm. He was a devoted traveler, an avid fisherman, and a familiar face at the Bateau Festival each year. He never met a stranger—making friends wherever he went. His loyal dog, Willow, was his constant companion.
Nate was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hubert Dillard Hamlett Sr. and Peggy Moore Hamlett of Madison Heights, Virginia. He is survived by his loving parents, Bob and Debbie Foster; his sister, Brandy Morse (Charles); his nephews, Adam and Lucas Morse; his uncle, Hubert Dillard Hamlett Jr. (Darlene); as well as countless friends and colleagues who were touched by his kindness, infectious positivity, and adventurous spirit.
The family will receive friends and colleagues of Nate at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Virginia on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 4 pm to 7 pm. A church service to honor Nate will be held at the Compassion Church of the Nazarene, 1737 Wards Ferry Road, Lynchburg Virginia on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the James River Association, North American Mycological Association, or Amherst County Rescue Squad, organizations that reflect his love for nature, being on the river, mushroom hunting, and his desire to help others.
