Nathan Rucker Smoot

Nathan Rucker Smoot Jr., 68, of Amherst, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Nathan was born in Lynchburg on January 20, 1957 to the late Nathan Rucker Smoot Sr. and Nancy Taylor Smoot. He was preceded in death by his in-laws Clayton Mays and Elsie Ogden Mays. Nathan is survived by his loving wife Lavone Mays Smoot. He also is survived by his children, Natalie Smoot Tyler (Joshua Richards Tyler) and Nicholas Ryan Smoot (Anna Birkner Smoot). He leaves behind a cherished legacy in that of his four grandchildren, Mason Lavone Tyler, Elsie Jean Smoot, Illa Davis Tyler, and Rucker William Smoot. He also leaves behind his brother, David Smoot (Robin) and Michelle Heimenz (Greg). A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church. Visitation is to start at 1:30. A burial is to follow the services at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery. Driskill Funeral Chapel is serving the family.
