Nellie Blankenship Branscome

Nellie Blankenship Branscome, 86, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, in Smithfield, North Carolina. Born on February 13, 1938, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Homer Blankenship and Helen Cobler Blankenship. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Roosevelt Blankenship, William Blankenship, John D. Blankenship, Charles Blankenship, Clifford Blankenship, and Stuart Blankenship.

Nellie was a devoted member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and found great joy in her faith and community. She dedicated 22 years to Bassett Walker, where she worked in the clerical department before retiring. Known for her warm spirit and kind heart, she cherished time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by her loving children, Karen Branscome of Sylva, North Carolina; Kenneth Branscome of Clayton, North Carolina; and Keith Branscome of Horseheads, New York. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Amanda Patel, Rachel Fitzgerald, Mikaila Anderson, Kaleb Branscome, and Elizabethe Branscome, as well as Kenzi Branscome and Klarissa Branscome. Nellie also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, her brother Raymond Blankenship, and a host of extended family and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with Pastor Randy Aldridge officiating.
