Nellie Minter Gibson Hairfield

Nellie Minter Gibson Hairfield, 97, of Axton, Virginia passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023. She was born January 16, 1926, in Axton, Virginia, to the late Jesse Thomas Minter and Lena Bray Minter. Mrs. Hairfield worked for Dan River Mills for many years. She was the oldest living member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Axton.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Lenwood Gibson; second husband Oswald W. Hairfield; daughter, Brenda Lea Gibson; stepdaughter, Helen Hairfield Bravick; stepson, Ronnie Hairfield; sisters, Margaret Minter Kendrick, Lottie Minter, and Fannie Minter Kimball; brothers, Lynn Minter, Neal Minter, Herman Minter, Sam Minter, Stafford Minter, and James Minter.

She is survived by her son, Arthur “Thomas” Gibson (Jencie) of Axton; granddaughter, Amanda Gibson Meadows (Mark) of Danville; great-grandson, Jacob Reid Meadows; stepdaughter, Susan Smart (Ted) of Axton; several nieces and nephews; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 42 Mount Vernon Road, Axton, VA 24054.
