Nellie "Nell" Wright Abbott

Nellie Wright Abbott, 90, of Daleville, passed away peacefully, and entered heaven on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Nell was preceded in death by her husband Wiley Richard; siblings Blanche Slayton, Earl Wright, Patsy Camper, and Ruth Eimers.

Nell taught 4th grade at Burlington Elementary, until her retirement in 2000. She was a lifelong member of Troutville Baptist Church, where she formed many close friendships over the years. Working outside in her gardens, playing tennis, cards, and backgammon with friends were her favorite activities. She also enjoyed canning, preserving, cooking, and collecting and “perfecting” recipes.

Nell is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Cameron Dale and Lisa Abbott; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and several special friends.

Special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and to her devoted caretakers who enabled her to remain in her home till her passing providing her with excellent care and love during the last two years of her life. The family is most grateful for this compassionate team!

Services will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 2 pm at Troutville Baptist Church with The Rev. Carol Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
