Norman William Burscher
Norman William “Bill” Burscher passed away just before his 67th birthday. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Lacks; (Rick Peters) his three nieces, Chelsea Shelton, (Ben) Jessica Lacks, (Mac) and Ali Driggs (Jonathan); his great niece Kolbie Driggs, and his great nephews Grady Driggs and Alex Maclelland. He was, as one of his t-shirts declared, a “Great Great Uncle.” His family and even many friends of the family would refer to him as “Uncle Bill,” and he was well-loved in the community of Chatham and at his church, New Life Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his father Norman Burscher, from whom he inherited his sense of humor and creativity, and his mother Ruth Burscher, from whom he inherited his faith in God.
Bill was born in New Jersey and moved with his family to Chatham in 1977. He spent some time in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He also spent some years abroad doing mission work in Brazil, Nicaragua, and even in Thailand.
Bill was an artist. The cabinets he created were not just functional but were a thing of true beauty. He always had a vision of something beautiful and had the talent to bring his vision to life for his customers and his friends and family. From full bathroom, kitchen and closet remodels, to smaller designs for sculptures and bookshelves and classroom podiums, his creativity and craftsmanship were out of this world. He put his heart and soul into everything he did.
To know Uncle Bill was to love him. He had the biggest heart and cared for everyone. He always made sure that people he came in contact with felt seen, valued and loved. He is gone too soon, and he will be missed terribly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 7th at New Life Community Church, 3837 US-29 Business, Danville, VA 24540, with pastor and friend Jim Reed officiating.
