Ollie Amethyst Thompson

OLLIE AMETHYST THOMPSON, 88 of Bland, VA, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born January 31, 1937 in Bland, VA, the daughter of the late James Therry & Ida Hounshell Thompson.

Known as the “lady that always waved,” Ollie loved being outdoors and to walk around downtown Bland and enjoyed greeting drivers passing by with a big wave.

She worked at Tultex for many years.

She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed a good game of Bingo and was known for her singing old time gospel music.

She lived a private and simple life. She made a huge impact on this earth by her kindness and her sincere greetings to all who drove by. She will be missed by those who knew her.

Ollie was preceded in death by her parents, James Therry & Ida Elizabeth Hounshell Thompson, her brothers, Vance Thompson and Elmer Thompson and her sisters, Ossie Lang, Ellen French and Leona Mallory.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Barbara Loving; a special niece and caregiver, Becky Mallory; and several nieces and nephews, too many to list.

Per Ollie’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no public services.
