Opal Pauline Wright Lawrence
Mrs. Opal Pauline Wright Lawrence, age 96, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Monday, February 26, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 5, 1927, in Surry County to the late William and Ada Hill Wright. Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Ernest Grey Lawrence Sr; her children and their spouses, Ernest (Ernie) Grey Lawrence Jr and Sarah Lawrence, Gary and Kathy Lawrence, Darlene and Doug Wegner, and Tim and Janet Lawrence; grandchildren, William Lawrence, Melissa(Tommy) Jackson, Benjamin (BJ) Lawrence, Katie(Kat) Lawrence (C.J. Box), Deirdre Wegner, John (Ashlee) Case, and Jane (Scott) Nance; great grandchildren, Aerith Box, Elias Case, Adlee Case, Ezrah Case, and Ella Mackinzie Nance; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Lawrence was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was an active member of the community and her church. She loved to play the piano and would frequently serve as pianist for new and fledgling churches. She loved nature and the outdoors. She was always at Grey’s side working on their farm and enjoying life. She was known for her excellent cooking and baking which she frequently contributed to pot luck dinners and family gatherings. The family wants to give thanks to her two caregivers Alesa Campbell and Cindy Mayes for helping support her.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church. Service will begin and 2:00 PM, in the church, with Rev. Trent Lyon officiating.
