Paul Deane Phelps
On June 5, 2025, Paul Deane Phelps was called home to be with the Lord.
Born August 21, 1958 in Lynchburg, Virginia, Paul was a devoted husband, father, and papa. He was a faithful member of Timberlake Baptist Church for forty years, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Awana leader. Paul enjoyed sports and was a salesman for Overnite Transportation and Old Dominion Freight Line. Most of all, he cherished time with his family.
He is survived by the love of his life, Suzanne, his wife of forty-six years; children Jason Phelps (Melissa) of Lynchburg, Megan Hollopeter (Aaron) of Ohio and Jonathan Phelps (Elizabeth) of Ohio; grandchildren Isaac, Kasen, Norah, Kobe, Evan, Austin, Trevor, and Kaylee; his mother Edeltraut (Trudy) Phelps of Lynchburg; mother-in-law Shirley Johnson of Bedford; siblings Delmus G. Phelps (Lynda) of Lynchburg, Jac Phelps (Betty) of Lynchburg and Carlos Brooks (Mark) of Forest; sisters-in-law Cathie Burnette (Willie) of Bedford and Diane Johnson of Salem; and many extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Delmus Y. Phelps of Lynchburg; father-in-law Bobby Johnson of Lynchburg; grandparents William and Louise Phelps of Lynchburg; Otto and Ida Baske of Germany; nieces Marlena Hodges and Marcia Phelps of Lynchburg; great niece Brinley Gortman of Roanoke.
Above all, he was a man of deep faith in God, always seeking to live a life that honored his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was devoted to trusting the Lord and His sovereignty. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. We look forward to being reunited in Heaven with him one day.
The family would like to thank the staff at Runk and Pratt of Forest and Centra Hospice for the love and care shown to Paul.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19th from 5-7pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A celebration of Paul's life and faith will be held on Friday, June 20 at 10am at Timberlake Baptist Church, with a graveside interment to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Lynchburg Salvation Army.
