Peggy Caldwell Martin

Peggy Sue Prillaman Caldwell Martin, 93, of Danville, VA died on October 19, 2023 at her residence. Peggy was born August 22, 1930 in Beckley, WV to the late Booker A. Prillaman, Sr. and the late Lucille Williams Prillaman. She was married to Walter B. Caldwell on August 19, 1950. He predeceased her on July 17, 1987. She later married M. Gene Martin on September 18, 1993, who survives, of the residence. Peggy retired from Averett University after 26 years of service to the University.

She is survived by three children: James S. Caldwell of Danville, Susan C. Pinekenstein (Mark) of California, MD, and Kathy M. Setliff, also of Danville. Surviving grandchildren include Christopher M. Simpson (Misty) of Parma, MI, Lisa S. Wrenn of Danville, Jeffrey Setliff (Tiffany) of Danville, W. Bradley Pinekenstein (Kelly) Leesburg, VA, Rebecca G. Lilly (Martin) of Columbia, MD. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a niece, Barbara Prillaman of Cary, NC, and a brother, Booker A. Prillaman, Jr. (Dorothy) of Greensboro, NC.

Peggy was predeceased, in addition to her parents and first husband, by grandchildren Eric Pinekenstein and Sara Pinekenstein, great-grandchild, Alexis Nicole Simpson, niece, Patricia Prillaman, and son-in-law, Jeffrey Setliff.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to all of her caregivers over the last several years, but especially to those who lovingly cared for her in her final days: Sheila Kirby, Rasheen Toppin, Jasmine Blackstock, Shirley Hayes, and her hospice nurse, Laura Swift. Without you, we could not have gotten through this.

A memorial service to honor the life of Peggy will be held at a later date.
