Peggy Jean Gearhart

Peggy Jean Gearhart, 90, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. She was born on February 17, 1935.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James Thompson and Margaret Thompson; her husband, Stafford Lewis Gearhart Sr.; her son, Stafford Lewis Gearhart Jr.; and her sisters, Ethel Crowder, Mildred “Sis” Clark, Ruth Booze, Phyllis Gearheart, and Jeroline Sarver.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Jean Gearhart, and her partner, Teresa Lovell; her sister, Becky Sink; her brother in law, Richard Booze; and many nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply.

Peggy had a warm and caring spirit and was known for her love of doing ladies’ hair at Richfield in Salem, Virginia. She enjoyed family gatherings, long rides in the car, and spending time at yard sales with her daughter and sisters. Peggy also spoiled her daughter rotten and was an awesome mom who loved her family wholeheartedly.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. A service will follow, with burial to take place afterward at Sherwood Memorial Park.
