Peggy Young Meeks

May 30, 1934 - September 15, 2022

Peggy Arlene Young Meeks went to be with the Lord Thursday, September 15, 2022. Peggy was born May 30, 1934, the second child of twelve. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Blanche Young; her husband of sixty years, Claude Meeks; two daughters, Dreama Meeks and Amanda King; two sisters, Jean Mattox and Polly Conner; and two brothers, Billy and Douglas Young.
Peggy will be missed by her three sons, Robert (Marian), Gary (Jamie), and Tommy; one daughter, Diane Meeks (Wade); nine grandchildren, Dreama Martin (Austin), Cameron Meeks (Rachel), Tara Meeks, Kristi Meeks, Carrie Foster (Bud), Andrew King (Stephanie), Jason King (Megan), Wiley and Kendrick Hodges; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Irene Shively, Nancy Mullins, and Gail Pigg (Arnold); four brothers, Harry Young (Linda), Walter Young, Richard Young (Marlene), and Gerald Young (Diann); brother-in-law, Merlin Meeks (Ruby); and sister-in-law, Sylvia Young.
Peggy was a believer and follower of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She followed his teachings and was kind, understanding, and loving to all. She served Christ in many ways: Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, church cleaning, or whatever way she could honor Christ. She never forgot a birthday and always sent a get-well card to those who were sick. Her love for Christ was seen in her love for family, church, and anyone who came into her life.
She had a love for her family that doesn't exist for most families today. Her brothers and sisters had a love for each other and were always there with love when needed. We would like to thank all who have provided prayers, cards, calls, food, visits, and love to Mama and each of us during this time. The greatest gift our Mama gave us was love, and we hope that her life will
show through the love we have for others. Always tell a family member, a friend, or stranger that you love them and that God loves them, too. We would like to extend a special thanks to Carrie Foster for her help. We could never have taken care of Mama at home without her. Funeral services will be conducted at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022. Interment will follow in the Young Family Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Sunday 5-7 p.m. at the church. The family suggests memorials be made to the Gideons International P.O. Box 915, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 or a charity of their choice. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Services and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
