Gene was a pharmacist for 60 years with 45 years spent at Roman Eagle Nursing Home where he was instrumental in the formation of the pharmacy there as well as 40 years at Danville Memorial Hospital. He taught nurses pharmacology at Danville Memorial School of Nursing. Gene also worked at People’s Drug Store.
He served in the Army (artillery) as well as the Airforce, earning rank of Sergeant during two years spent fighting in the Korean War.
Gene held the fondness and respect of many. Hard working and dignified, he was a man of steady grace. To be with Gene Major was to feel like “somebody”. A loyal friend, supportive husband, gentle and loving father, grand/great-grandfather. He enjoyed cars, football, watching westerns, spending time on the lake, dining out and cookouts with friends and family as well as entertaining guest with his wife, Lois, in their home. He loved good times and dancing. His puckish spirit brought life to any gathering. He took his love for his family seriously. A doting father, he adored the apple of his eye, Kimberly (“Kimbo”). He, also, took great delight in Kristina (his granddaughter) and her children (Ilaria and Gio). He will be sorely missed. We hold your memory in our hearts until we meet again! We love you so very, very much!
