Peter Thomas Osterhous

October 1, 1949 - May 4, 2024

Peter Thomas Osterhous, 74, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Davis & McDaniel Veterans Care Center, in Salem, Virginia, which had been his home for many years.

Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Peter attended Frank W. Cox High School. He later was enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he served on active duty and in the reserves. He was a lifelong Duke basketball and Washington football fan, a true history buff, and was also an avid music lover, especially favoring The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones. Peter thoroughly enjoyed sharing a good joke, of which he knew many. His numerous friends, many of them lifelong, meant the world to him, and he treasured them all dearly. He was a kind, thoughtful, and gentle soul who would always greet everyone he met with a friendly hello. Peter would often give his nurses at the care center Godiva chocolate in appreciation of their care. He will be missed dearly as well as his calls to “just check in” or to share a joke. May he now know peace forevermore.

He is survived by two of his brothers, Louis Osterhous and Larry Osterhous; his sister, Mary Lou Osterhous; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Masters.
