Peter Todd Genero
Peter Todd “Pete” Genero, 58, of Monroe, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, following a brave battle with cancer.
Pete was born in Barre, VT, on January 31, 1967. He was self-employed in the construction industry and a devoted member of Oasis Church in Monroe. Above all, Pete was a family man who loved his family dearly and had an unwavering faith in God. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, but his true passion was baseball. Pete was a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves and supported all Amherst County baseball teams. He spent over 20 years as a T-ball coach with Madison Heights Dixie Youth and coached the travel ball team, the 434 Boys.
Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Tassie Bebo; his brother, James Melvin and his wife Debbie; and his sister, RuthAnn Steinmiller.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jacki Bell; two sons, Athron “Ace” Genero (Joey) and J.D. Genero; his step-daughter, Kristin Davis (Jeremy); two sisters, Liz Cote (Chris) and Karen Marshall (Dwayne); one brother, Joe Genero (Jan); five grandchildren, Lane Overstreet (Cecilia), Madalyn Overstreet (Hunter), Megan Walker, and Jeremy and Jacob Davis; his step-brother, Kevin Camp; brother-in-law, Mike Martin; father and mother-in-law, Gene and Betty Prophater; and Athron “Art” Neighbors, who was like a father to Pete. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Pastor Rick Rasberry officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Pete’s memory to the Madison Heights Youth Baseball Association, 319 Trojan Ln, Madison Heights, VA 24572, or to the 434 Boys travel ball team, 111 Beechwood Dr., Madison Heights, VA 24572.
Pete will be remembered for his love of family, his devotion to coaching young athletes, and his kind and generous spirit.
