Philip Hughes Shepherd

Philip Hughes Shepherd, 60, of Salem, Virginia, passed away at 12:32 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025. His wife and the love of his life, JoAnne Buckley, was by his side along with his very close friend, Donna Lawson.

Phil was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Harley Davidson, and fur babies. He was extremely proud of his home and yard. His work ethic and sense of humor were some of the best parts of him. He was a meat cutter and market manager, and loved what he did. He spent 13 years with Food Lion and 22 years with Kroger. The coworkers and customers were his favorite parts of the job.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Bobby and Opaline Shepherd; uncle, Bill Jackson; and grandparents.

His surviving family includes his wife, JoAnne Buckley; and their two cats, Buffy and Jody.

A period of visitation will be held from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Virginia. A graveside service will then follow at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Virginia.
