Philip Pickurel
Charles Philip Pickurel, age 69, of Henry, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 22, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A graduate of Drewry Mason High School, Philip dedicated over 40 years of his life to the automotive glass industry.
He was born June 9, 1956, to the late Charles Douglas Pickurel and Minnie Marie Pickurel.
Philip is survived by his wife of 42 years Tammy Pickurel, a daughter Cindy Sarver and husband Richard of Collinsville, VA; his brother Jimmy Pickurel and wife Karen of Ramseur, NC and sister Vickie Maddox and husband Dave of Martinsville, VA. Also surviving are his grandson Colby Sarver and wife Tristan of Collinsville and great-granddaughter Kennedy Sarver also of Collinsville; 7 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews.
Philip attended Prillaman Baptist Church in Henry, VA was an avid softball player who played for the Grace Baptist Church softball team for many years in Spencer, Virginia.
He was also an accomplished bowler, bowling in many different leagues at both Druid Lanes in the 80's, 90's and 2000's and at Sportlanes in the 2000's. Philip was a founding member of the Henry Volunteer Fire Department, and a lifetime member of GWRRA where he served as the chapter director as well as the Safety Educator for many years. Philip loved spending time with his family, his church family, the beach, and cruising.
The family would like to thank Sarah Campbell, Kenny Holcomb, and the staff at Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home for the special care, kindness, and unwavering love they showed to Philip over the past couple of years.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel at 12:00 noon with Pastor Mike Magani, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow immediately after at the Tatum Family Cemetery, in Franklin County.
