Phillip "Phil" Wayne Rakes
Phillip “Phil” Wayne Rakes, 74, of Fieldale, VA passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at his home. He was born August 9, 1948, to the late Clarence Rakes and the late Bootsy Slaughter Rakes.
Mr. Rakes is survived by his daughter, Shannon Slade (Heath); son, Christopher Rakes (Tammy); stepchildren, Rhonda Case (Jimmy), Suzie Beasley, and Robert Beasley; and grandchildren, Sheree Beasley Rutherford (Andrew) and Trey Case (Joy Somatanai).
Phil was free-spirited, kindhearted, and a generous soul. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed, often without being asked. Among his many talents were oil painting, building trikes, playing guitar, he loved woodworking, and fishing. In warmer weather you could always find him on the lake in his boat or on the parkway riding his trike with his best friend, Danny Adkins. He had strong faith and knew God personally, always making time each day to pray and talk to God. He always said that this life was temporary, and we were just passing through on our way to our heavenly home.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Gracie Beasley Rakes; sisters, Linda Hall, and Glenda Rakes; brother, Jimmy Rakes; grandson, Russell Beasley; first wife, Betty Cannady Coleman; and grand dog, Alex Barkley.
The family will receive family and friends at his residence, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2023.
