Phyllis Irene Clark Compton

Phyllis “Irene” Clark Compton, 87, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025. She was born July 7, 1938, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Pink Clark and Virgie Jane McMillion Clark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert Allen “Cottie” Compton; sisters, Alline Overby and Bertha Barker.

Irene was a devoted homemaker for forty-three years, pouring her love and care into her home and family. She found peace in the simple joys of life, walking outdoors, tending to her beloved flowers, and watching the birds. She cherished the moments spent playing bingo at the YMCA and the local bingo hall, especially when accompanied by her daughter. Irene was the embodiment of kindness and humility, always placing others before herself. Her love for her family ran deep, and she made it a priority to check on those she cared about, offering unwavering support and warmth. To know Irene was to know a gentle, selfless soul who touched the lives of everyone around her.

She is survived by her daughters, Joann Pendleton, Lynn Owen; son, Rickey Compton (Beth); granchildren, Emma Compton, Michael Pendleton, and Mickey Owen.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Burial Park.
