Phyllis W. Pegram
Phyllis Webb Pegram passed away gently and peacefully on January 8, 2024, at
Roanoke Memorial Hospital with family by her side. She was born in West Virginia on September 16, 1931, to the late Harley Beecher Webb and Audrey Carter Webb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Webb.
Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband and best friend John T. (Smoky) Pegram; and children Jane P. Young (Mark) of Greenville, SC, Tom Pegram (Rita) of Stuart, Kent Pegram of Bassett, Harriet P. McGuire (Danny) of Bassett, Robert Pegram of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren: Tristen Pegram Livick (Andrew), Josh Pegram (Chelsea), Jordan Pegram (Liz), Tyler McGuire, Abbey McGuire, Alex
Pegram and Amber Pegram; great-grandchildren: Audrey Pegram, Toby Pegram, Abigail Pegram, Ben Pegram, Ace Livick, Eloise Livick, and Shiloh Pegram. She is also survived by brother-in-law Joe Pegram (Peggy) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Phyllis attended schools in Bassett and graduated from Mary Washington College and became a teacher at Campbell Court, Bassett High School, and Fieldale Middle School. Her love of English and reading books was a strong passion throughout her life that she shared and tried to instill in everyone she met. She attended and was very active in Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church in Bible Study and choir throughout her life.
Her love and devotion to her dear husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and strangers was immense. She loved reading, collecting, and sharing books, and trips to the beach.
She was respected and loved by many and will be very deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2023, at Noon at Pocahontas Baptist Church, with Pastor Susan Spangenberg, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church Endowment Fund , 120 Old Bassett Heights Rd, Bassett, VA 24055.
