Preston Thomas Davidson

February 17, 1945 - December 27, 2024

Preston Thomas Davidson, Sr., 79, of Penhook passed away on December 27, 2024, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount, Virginia. He was born in the Museville area of Pittsylvania County on February 17, 1945, the eldest of nine children to Cabell Thomas and Ora Rigney Davidson. He grew up on the family farm in the Sago community, where he lived for the rest of his life. He married Rosalind Lawrence in 1968. Three years later, their son and his namesake was born.

After being baptized in Snow Creek at the age of twelve, Preston became a life-long member of Cool Springs Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and trustee. On the job, he operated heavy equipment; his favorite was manning the backhoe. Through the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing with his son, making birdhouses, refurbishing gun stocks, grilling year round, and smoking a turkey at Thanksgiving. He particularly enjoyed vacationing in the Outer Banks, where he fished from the pier. A tinkerer, he tackled anything that could be fixed and was proud of his extensive tool collection. In his later years, he enjoyed driving his tractor and tending to his lawn and garden. He loved his family, his home, and his corner of the world.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Rosalind Davidson; his son, Preston Thomas Davidson II; his brother, Dennis Davidson; another brother, Jerry Davidson and his wife Jeanneane; his sister, Serena Clark and her husband Jason; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Preston was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Ora Davidson; two sisters, Deloris Bennett and Carolyn Jones; and three brothers, Clark, Bruce, and Ricky Davidson.

Funeral services will be conducted at Cool Springs Christian Church, 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, with Pastor Matt Thurman officiating. Interment will follow in the Adkins-Lawrence Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
