Ray "Sonny" Edward Taylor

May 14, 1938 - February 23, 2026

Ray (Sonny) Taylor 87 of Gladstone went home to be with his Savior, Monday February 23, 2026.Sonny was born on May 14, 1938 to Joseph Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor. He was a graduate of Appomattox High School. Sonny was in the Army 25th Infantry and served during the Vietnam War. Sonny worked and retired with C&O Railroad for 42 years, he also was a member of American Legion post 116, VFW post 9877 Amherst and a Freemason and brother of Clinton lodge No.73 in Amherst.

Sonny loved God and was a Faithful member of Clifford Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband to his wife Mary Jane for 46 years. Sonny was also a proud

Grandfather and Great Grandfather who loved to brag about his 16 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.

Sonny was predeceased by his wife Mary Jane Taylor, his Father Joseph Taylor, Mother Elizabeth Taylor and Brother William Earl Taylor (Patricia).He leaves behind a Sister Peggy Jo Petry (Rick).His four children his Sons Curtis (Kirk) Fitzgerald (Jean), Anthony Taylor (Tamara), Greg Taylor and a daughter Karyn Fuqua (John).As well as 16 Grand children 19 Great grandchildren. Sonny was also blessed by a special friendship with Ann Tyree and all her family, who loved him so well, treated him as part of their family and were always willing to help him out in any way. A special thank you to staff at Health Care at Home who took such wonderful care of him in his last days.

A visitation will be held Monday March 2.2026 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Clifford Baptist Church. The funeral will be held Tuesday March 3, 2026 at 11:00 am at Clifford Baptist Church, Burial to follow at Amherst Cemetery. Rev Jeffery Campbell Dr. Mike Fitzgerald and Rev Jeff Whorley will be officiating. Driskill chapel has the privilege of serving the family.
