Raymond Arthur Harper

Raymond Arthur Harper, 68, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, North Carolina. He was born May 18, 1954 in Bedford, Virginia to the late Emmett R. Harper and Rosie Eggleston Harper. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines and was a member of Greater Canaan Land Church. He enjoyed fishing, farming, talking junk and making people laugh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Maxine Rumley, Elaine Rucker, Rebecca Harper and Rosa Harper; brothers, Bennie Harper, Emmett “Nelson” Harper, David “Dave” Harper and Robert Harper.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Mary Kilpatrick Harper; step-daughter, Tiffany Millner; sister, Rachel Young; and brother, William Harper (Judy).

A funeral will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at Greater Canaan Land Church in Gretna, Virginia with Bishop Raymond Bennett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at The Harper Family Cemetery, John Baker Road, Fieldale, Virginia. A floating visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
