Reba Kathryn Wood passed away peacefully at Friendship North Health and Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke, Virginia on October 21, 2022.  Reba was born October 31, 1935 at home on the family farm in Boones Mill, Virginia.
Reba was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas M. and Blanche Bowman Wood; her sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Vernon Merkey; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Jane Wood; and a nephew, Kent Merkey. Reba is survived by her very special friend, H.N. Barnhart; nieces and nephews, Anne (Chett) Mitchell, Stephen (Sara) Merkey, Janice (Scott) Yetmar; and many special great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Reba was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Church of the Brethren where she looked forward to attending Sunday School and Worship each Sunday. She held various positions in the church over the years and was a very active member throughout her time there. 
Reba graduated from Franklin County High School and attended Bridgewater College before transferring to Radford College. Reba graduated from Radford with a teaching degree. Reba taught in the Social Studies Department at Cave Spring High School for 32 years, also serving as the department head for part of those years. She was a member of the Girls’ Night Out Group from Cave Spring High School which she enjoyed spending time with even after she retired from teaching. She was a member of the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s Sorority and enjoyed keeping in touch with this group for many years.
Reba loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit all fifty states and more than thirty countries. She often shared photos and stories from her travels with her history classes over the years. 
The family would like to give special thanks to the many wonderful neighbors and friends who were of great help to Reba, especially over the past few years. 
Memorials in honor of Reba may be made to Bethlehem Church of the Brethren, 4250 Bethlehem Road, Boones Mill, VA 24065.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, at Bethlehem Church of the Brethren Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
