Rebecca Lynne Harris
REBECCA LYNNE HARRIS (“Becky”, “Beck”, “Rebec”, “Miss Becky”), age 63, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025.
Born in Wytheville, VA, on April 10, 1961, I was the daughter of the late Henry Roebert & Edyth Medley Harris. Besides my parents, I was preceded in death by my brother, David Harris, and a grand-nephew, Jonathan Washer.
I graduated from Bland High School in 1979. I worked as a Bland County School bus driver for 39 years and 11 months. I graduated from Wytheville Community College, Bluefield College, and received my M.S. in Special Education from Old Dominion University in 2000. I was a special education teacher for 19 years until my health forced me to retire. I also trained bus drivers and taught behind the wheel driver education.
For the most part, I was a loner. However, I had a host of close friends, too many to name. There were also my “adopted” kiddos and grandkids, whom I loved dearly.
I prayed a lot. If you asked for prayer, you would be on my prayer list forever.
I attended Valley View Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Bluefield, WV, where I served as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include my sister, Connie Blankenship, Little Creek, and my brothers & sisters-in-law, Carl & Net Harris of MD, and Mark & Sherry Harris, of Fort Chiswell; twelve nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and great-nephews, one great-grandniece and two great-grand-nephews.
Also surviving are two “adopted” brothers, Bill Hoosier, Jr. and Larry Bivens. I had several friends that I was close to, but I am afraid of leaving someone out. You know who you are.
My two most loving companions were my babies, BeBe and Annie. I was lonely for them until I died. I will be cremated and my ashes will be scattered where BeBe and Annie are buried.
A short memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Valley View Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 510 Adventist Rd., Bluefield, WV, 24701. (The church is located off 460 on Green Valley Road (mile marker 8). Turn right and go 3/10 of a mile up the hill.) After the memorial service, there will be a celebration of my life. It will also be at the church. There will be food and games and I want everyone to have a good time and for everyone to be happy. You may want to bring a chair.
If I had anything to say to people, it would be: “Put God at the center of your life. This life on Earth will end, but there is a better place awaiting if you put God first and live for Him. Don’t hold grudges. If you are mad at someone, ask yourself: Will it really matter in five minutes? Five hours? Five days? Truly treat others the way you want to be treated. You can’t control other’s behaviors, but you can control your own.”
Thank you to everyone who touched my life. Remember, I love you. Becky
