Rev. Earnest Porter Harrell

Rev. Earnest Porter Harrell Jr., age 73, of Ararat, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on November 23, 1950 in Surry County to the late Earnest Porter Harrell Sr., and the late Bertha Virginia Stroupe Harrell. Mr. Harrell owned and operated Tri-State Furniture before his retirement. He was also pastor for many years at The Church of the Living God in Ararat, Virginia. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will surely be missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 3 years, Cherrie Carpenter Harrell; daughters and son-in-law, Angela Sparks (Jamie), Jeanne Harrell; son and daughter-in-law, Mitch Robertson (Paula); numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Marsh (Randy), Brenda Rachels. In addition to his parents Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his first wife, Marlene Harrell; sisters, Clara Jean Harrell, and Lena Dixon; brother, Ronald Harrell. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Living God with service conducted by Rev. Gray Cook and Rev. Bobby Bell. Burial will follow in the Harrell Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until time for the service.
