Richard Clayton Stout

Richard Clayton Stout Sr., age 77, of Bassett, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at his home.

He was born on October 10, 1947, in Henry County, VA to the late Edgar Stout and Violet Witt Stout. Richard was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia S. Nevins, two brothers: Buford Stout and Robert Witt, and his stepmother, Elma Stout.

Richard worked at Fieldcrest Mills for 48 years until the mill closed. Most of the years he worked in maintenance. He retired from the physical plant at Ferrum College in 2013.

At an early age, he accepted the LORD at Pleasant View Baptist Church. After his marriage to Linda, he faithfully attended Bassett Church of the Brethren.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda R. Stout, his daughter, Teresa Hooper (Mike), his son, Richard Stout Jr. (Sherri), three grandchildren; Christopher Hooper (fiancée Kayla Brummett),

Kaitlyn Hooper (fiancée Kolbey Mitchell), Dustin Hall, his sister, Eva Beck, his brother, David Stout (Marie), his brother-in-law George Nevins, and several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation for will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Highway, Bassett, VA 24055 with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Dr, Martinsville, VA 24112.
