Richard Duane Joyce

Richard Duane Joyce, 69, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Mulberry Creek Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born on March 27, 1956, in Leakesville, North Carolina, to the late Wayne Stewart Joyce and Janie Hodges Joyce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Duane Stuart Joyce; and his sister, Fonda Southern.

Richard was a certified Cadillac mechanic and worked at Midpoint Chevrolet. He had a special passion for Legos and coloring and enjoyed building and creating with them throughout his life.

He is survived by his four children: Richard Duane Joyce, Jr., Todd Joyce (Sheila), January Rigney (Linwood), and Stephanie Rea (Brandon); one sister, Tina Williams (Randy); one brother, Charles Lee Joyce (Brenda); thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Payton Gilbert officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Dobyns Family Cemetery in Stuart, Virginia.
