Richard Louis Sherwood

Richard Louis Sherwood, 78, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. Richard was born in Buffalo, NY, on February 28, 1947, to the late Leona June Vieau Sherwood and the late Walter Leroy Sherwood. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mrs. Rita Whittington Sherwood.

Richard was a faithful member of Christ the King Church. He worked for many years as a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service, prior to his retirement. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by a son, James Troup of Lynchburg, VA; four daughters: Amber Farley (Kaleb) of Danville, VA, Alexis Troup of Arizona, Becky Neff (Matt) of Huber Heights, OH, and Karen Ludwick (Rich) of Crestwood, KY, and fifteen grandchildren; Richard also came from a family of 8 siblings, having four brothers and three sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA, with Pastor Norb Folwackszny officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held on the same day, before the service, from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel.
